The Inception:

The Novel Coronavirus pandemic has given rise to unprecedented challenges, affecting the lives of people in the worst ways possible. This situation has brought hunger to lots of people, resulting in hunger emergency. To address this turmoil situation and the pandemic anxiety, a kit distribution drive was organized in the month of July 2020 by team SPECTRA in Alwar District of Rajasthan in associationwith Restless Development. This drive became a remarkable medium to facilitate relief and help to the needy population to a large extent. Total 380 kits were successfully delivered to the targeted population within the month of July. The kit Included wheat Flour (5 kilogram), Rice (4 Kilogram), Sugar (1 kilogram), Daal ( 2 kilogram), poha (1 kilogram), Turmeric powder (100 Gram), Red Chilli Powder (200 gram), Coriander powder (200 gram), oil (1 litre), salt (1 packet), Handwash (1) and Reusable CottonMask (4 ), Soaps (3), Sanitizer (1), Chhola (1 Kilogram), Mix Spice Powder (200 Gram).

Execution of the Drive:

A door to door survey was conducted by team SPECTRA to identify the actual condition of the people. This survey assisted in channelling the distribution to the people who are in dire need of help. The focus was given to migrant labourers, Daily labourers, differently abled, families with no employment due to corona, widow, and people with critical health problems with low-income level. Along with the kit distribution SPECTRA also made sure to spread awareness on precaution measures to be taken, use of mask whenever out of their homes and importance of maintaining distance while conversing with people. The kit distribution drive was also covered in the local news channels and print media such as News Kranti, Rajasthan Patrika, Rajasthan Bhaskar etc thatacted as a medium to motivate the volunteers to work diligently and as a means to spread the news regarding the distribution drive undertaken by SPECTRA in association with Restless Development.

Responses from the Beneficiaries:

Evidently, the Kit distribution drive was a great success to a largeextent as the receivers did express gratitude and relief on their end. Here are some statement from the beneficiaries:Asha from Hazipur Village expressed that “I am extending heartfelt gratitude to SPECTRA Organization for helping us in this hour of need. My husband has no work due to Corona and we have three children to feed. This kit will immensely help us to survive to a great extend”.Laxmifrom UmrainBlock said, “I am a widow. Most of my pension money goes in health expenses leaving very few for my daily needs. My own children did not help me as this organisation has, in this time of Pandemic. I am really very happy”.Pratap from Hazipur Village stated, “We receive constant support from SPECTRA Organization. During this time of Corona as well they have not disappointed us and made sure to help the needy ones diligently. Where the MLA’s and other government officials could not reach this organization made sure to help and provide relief to some level.”

Conclusion:

By becoming a helping hand to these people, the organization made sure to address the problem of hunger arising due to the current scenario. However, it would not have been possible without the help extended by Restless development. Their constant support and assistance made it possible for SPECTRA to implement the Kit distribution drive at the grassroots level. Amidst this crisis, the need of the hour is to create an atmosphere of support, care, guidance to sustain and fight the pandemic, and that is what precisely the SPECTRA organization is aiming for. With the support of the SPECTRA organization, the needy families in the district obtained some help to feed their family members and became capable to survive the hunger crisis resulted by Covid-19. The difficulties and crisis brought by the pandemic have left people with near death situations. Many families have been shattered and scarce in basic need to life. Families in highest need and hardest to reach areas are more vulnerable, hence facilitating services to these people were the prime priority.
